The Institute for the Study & Practice of Nonviolence

Prevention can very well be one of the best cures for reducing the soaring number of individuals who are being sent to prison.

At The Institute for the Study & Practice of Nonviolence located in Providence, Rhode Island, nonviolence training is taught to students, police officers, prison inmates and community members. The mission of the Center is to teach by word and example the principles and practices of nonviolence, and to foster a community that addresses potentially violent situations with nonviolent solutions. 

The Institute for the Study & Practice of Nonviolence was founded in 2001 by members of St. Michael’s Church and is founded on the nonviolent teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King.
