Immigration Reform

  1. One of the most fascinating things to me is how often undocumented workers pay taxes. Everyone thinks they do not, and certainly those that work for cash do not. But many use fake social security numbers to find employment. They have taxes taken out, and to avoid problems they take no deductions. They cannot take any refunds because of this as well. Their contributions to the government can be pretty substantial.

Can’t tell you whether this means they deserve citizenship or not. That’s not what I’m saying. Only that government officials tend to talk about undocumented workers like they are a drain on the government, and in reality they probably contribute more than they take simply because there isn’t a way for them to get their money back.
