There is also a detention center located on the grounds that holds detainees pending trial in the U.S. District Courthouse for the District of Oregon. It is overseen by the Western Regional Office. FCI Sheridan is a Medical Care Level 2 prison. It houses 1,152 male inmates. Inmates at the FCI are housed in two-person cells and inmates at the detention center are housed in two- or three-person cells.

Federal Correctional Institution, Sheridan, located in northwestern Oregon in Sheridan, is a medium-security facility for male inmates. Both at this institution and at the adjacent minimum-security prison camp, inmates live in two-story concrete buildings with white roofs that resemble college dormitories. Throughout their incarceration, inmates may participate in educational courses, personal enrichment programs, and recreational activities. Available educational offerings include GED, ESL, and Adult Continuing Education classes. Inmates are required to work in an issued prison job unless they are medically excluded.
