BOP Staff and Internal Policy Index

Get a Consultation

By Christopher Zoukis, JD, MBA — Managing Director, Elizabeth Franklin-Best, P.C.

The Bureau of Prisons issues two broad kinds of policy. Most of what people search for governs the conditions of confinement — discipline, visiting, medical care, sentence computation, release planning. The documents listed below are the other kind. They are staff and internal administration policies: human resources and hiring, employee conduct and wellness, procurement, travel, facilities and staff housing. They set rules for the people who work for the Bureau, not for the people held in its custody. Nothing on this page determines how anyone’s sentence is calculated, where a person is designated, or what programs they can enter. The list is here for completeness and reference only. If you are looking for the policies that affect incarcerated people and their families, use the main policy index instead.
