Chicago MCC
Metropolitan Correctional Center Chicago is a prison located in Chicago, Illinois. Designated as administrative-level, it holds men and women of all security levels who have trials pending in the Northern District of Illinois and offenders serving short sentences. The facility opened in 1974 and was brightened by more natural light than is found in other federal prisons in Illinois. It also features a rooftop exercise yard as well as leisure and law libraries.
Greenville FCI
Federal Correctional Institution Greenville is a medium-security federal prison located in Greenville, Illinois, designed to house male inmates. It is situated in Bond County, about 50 miles from St. Louis, Missouri, and 250 miles from Chicago. As a Medical Care Level 2 institution, it is equipped to meet the needs of inmates who are in good health but must manage chronic conditions such as medication-controlled diabetes and emphysema that require regular evaluations by a clinician. As with other Illinois federal prisons, those incarcerated at FCI Greenville must hold jobs and participate in educational, life skills, and self-improvement programs.
Greenville Prison Camp
Federal Correctional Institution Greenville Camp is a minimum-security satellite work camp for female inmates. It is situated adjacent to the medium-security institution FCI Greenville in Bond County, about 50 miles from St. Louis, Missouri, and 250 miles from Chicago. Residents of this camp are low-risk, nonviolent offenders with less than 10 years to serve on their sentences. In addition to participating in academic and life skills courses, everyone is expected to hold down a prison job.
Marion USP
United States Penitentiary Marion is a medium-security federal prison that serves male inmates. It is located in unincorporated Williamson County near the town of Marion. Situated in southern Illinois, the facility is 300 miles south of Chicago and 120 miles southeast of St. Louis, Missouri, and opened in 1963. USP Marion was built to replace the Alcatraz maximum-security federal prison in California. To maintain order among its violent inmates, it became the first so-called control unit. Contact among inmates was severely curtailed, with group therapy sessions being among the few times offenders mingled. In 2006, USP Marion was downgraded to a medium-security facility and renovated to house additional inmates. It is the only Illinois federal prisons institution to be deemed a Communications Management Unit.
Marion Prison Camp
United States Penitentiary Marion Camp is a satellite camp for male inmates with minimum security located adjacent to the USP Marion medium-security facility. It is in unincorporated Williamson County near the town of Marion. The facility is 300 miles south of Chicago and 120 miles southeast of St. Louis, Missouri. Inmates are housed in dormitory settings in two-person cubicles. As is the case in Illinois federal prisons of all security levels, offenders must hold jobs and participate in academic, life skills, and enrichment classes.
Pekin FCI
Federal Correctional Institution Pekin is a medium-security federal facility that serves male inmates located in Pekin, Illinois. It is situated 10 miles south of Peoria and 180 miles northeast of Chicago. Inmates live in four different housing units comprising two-, three-, eight-, and ten-person cells. Inmates in all federal prisons in Illinois, men incarcerated here must hold a job and are required to participate in academic, enrichment, and life skills programs. As a Medical Care Level 2 facility, it is equipped to meet the needs of inmates who are generally in good health but may have chronic conditions requiring ongoing clinical evaluation.

Thomson Prison Camp
United States Penitentiary Thomson Camp is a satellite prison camp serving male inmates situated adjacent to the high-security USP Thomson prison. The facility is located in the Carroll County town of Thomson, which is about 150 miles from Chicago and 200 miles from the state capital of Springfield. Although offenders have more privileges and rules are not as strict, inmates must still hold jobs and participate in academic and enrichment courses to ease their transition into the civilian world upon release.
