Milan FCI
Federal Correctional Institution Milan is located in Washtenaw County near Milan and is 45 miles southwest of Detroit. It houses male inmates. There is a nearby detention center for pretrial and holdover male offenders. In addition to the standard academic and vocational offerings, the facility provides a voluntary interfaith restorative justice residential program, one of only four in the federal prison system. The facility also collaborates with a local community college to provide a high school diploma to those who do not have one. Inmates are assigned to a prison work detail and must work during designated hours. Inmates at the facility also have access to GED, ESL, and ACE classes. The RDAP program is also available, which permits eligible inmates to earn a year off their sentence for program completion.
North Lake CI
Correctional Institution North Lake is located in Lake County near Baldwin, Michigan. It is a low-security private prison for male offenders operated by the GEO Group and under contract with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Typically, inmates housed at this institution are non-U.S. citizens who have been convicted of federal crimes. As is the case in all federal prisons, inmates at CI North Lake may pursue academic goals and must maintain prison employment.
