List of Mississippi Federal Prisons

There are four federal prisons in Mississippi, as well as one federal prison camp. The Southeast Regional Office of the Federal Bureau of Prisons oversees these facilities. By clicking on the below links, you will be taken to each facility’s detailed profile, where you can learn about specific facility offerings, information, and contact details.

Adams County CI

Correctional Institution Adams County is located near the city of Natchez in Mississippi. Unlike the other federal prisons in Mississippi, it is privately owned and operated by CoreCivic. As a low-security facility, it opened in 2009 and since then has predominantly housed men charged with illegally re-entering the United States after being deported.

Yazoo City USP

United States Penitentiary Yazoo City is located in Yazoo City, Mississippi, 36 miles north of Jackson. The male inmates in this high-security penitentiary live in seven two-story housing units, one of which has even higher security precautions. The penitentiary is on the grounds of the Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) Yazoo City, which also contains a medium-security institution, a low-security prison, and a minimum-security prison camp. Except for the privately run CI Adams County, this complex contains all Mississippi federal prisons. As is the case with all federal prisons in Mississippi, inmates here must hold down a job while incarcerated. The wages prisoners make can be spent in the commissary, which offers items that are not considered essential by prison staff. In addition, inmates are expected to attend vocational and enrichment classes.

Yazoo City Medium FCI

Federal Correctional Institution Yazoo City Medium is located in Yazoo City, Mississippi, 36 miles north of Jackson. It houses male inmates and is on the grounds of the Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) Yazoo City, which also contains a high-security penitentiary, a low-security prison, and a minimum-security prison camp. Since it is deemed medium-security, this facility has cell-type housing, strengthened perimeters, and greater control over inmates than is the case for lower-security Mississippi federal prisons. Offenders must have jobs in prison and must also take vocational, educational, and self-enrichment courses.

Yazoo City Low FCI

Federal Correctional Institution Yazoo City Low is located in Yazoo City, Mississippi, 36 miles north of Jackson. It houses male inmates and is on the grounds of the Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) Yazoo City, which also contains a high-security penitentiary, a medium-security prison, and a minimum-security prison camp. As a low-security institution, this facility has fewer internal restrictions and external perimeters. Even so, it still requires that all prisoners work and participate in educational and self-improvement programs designed to smooth their reintegration into the civilian world upon their release.

Yazoo City Prison Camp

Federal Correctional Institution Yazoo City Camp is located in Yazoo City, Mississippi, 36 miles north of Jackson. It houses male inmates and is on the grounds of the Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) Yazoo City, which also contains a high-security penitentiary, a medium-security prison, and a low-security institution. Unlike other Mississippi federal prisons, those housed at this camp have few physical or security restrictions and enjoy more privileges. Even so, they must hold down a job and are required to enhance their own academic standing and life skills by participating in classes and programs. The remaining sentence times being served are shorter for many. With this being said, they are encouraged to use their time at the camp to bolster their skills in preparation for their release.
