Federal Correctional Institution Yazoo City Medium is a medium-security federal prison in Yazoo City, Mississippi, which houses male inmates. It was opened in 2005 and is part of the Yazoo City Federal Correctional Complex.

Media reports indicate that at least one guard has been indicted for smuggling contraband into the institution. Additionally, at one point, 17 prisoners had to be hospitalized after drinking contaminated prison-made alcohol.

Inmates are housed in two-person cells.

Health Services

Yazoo City Mississippi prison provides primary health care for acute and chronic conditions, including diagnosis, treatment, education, and counseling for inmates. Physical examinations, dental services, pharmacy services, immunizations, and special care items (e.g., eyeglasses) are also provided. While emergency care is available 24 hours a day, inmates must submit a sick call form to be evaluated for routine care needs.

Psychology Services

Psychology services include intake screening, crisis intervention, and individual and group counseling. Inmates must submit a cop-out or visit Psychology Services open house to sign up for treatment programs. Group counseling includes stress management, grief group, effective communication, Beat the Streets, and more. These groups are offered on a rotating basis depending upon the needs of the inmate population.

Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP)

Yazoo City prison does not have the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP), but inmates can be referred to an institution that does provide RDAP. A Drug Education Course, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), and the Non-Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program (NR-DAP) are available.

Education Services

FCI Yazoo City Medium provides literacy, GED, and English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) programs. Inmates teach Adult Continuing Education (ACE) classes. The Education Department offers a Special Learning Needs Program for inmates with learning difficulties. FCI Yazoo City Medium in the News

In November 2019, former FCI Yazoo City Medium prison guard Kpanah Kollie was found guilty of conspiracy to introduce contraband into a federal prison. Charging documents indicated that Kollie had worked with two other guards and one inmate to smuggle drugs and cell phones into the prison.

In October 2018, prison guard Anthony Robinson was indicted for accepting bribes. Charging documents state that he had accepted bribes from inmates for smuggling contraband into the institution.

In September 2017, James P. Cheatham III, a guard at the medium-security Federal Correctional Institution at Yazoo City, was sentenced to 15 months for smuggling contraband to prisoners in exchange for $10,000.

In June 2016, around 17 prisoners at Yazoo City federal prison were hospitalized after drinking homemade alcohol believed to contain botulism.
