Prison Politics at Federal Correctional Institution Greenville
While some inmates say that Greenville, IL prison is a very political yard, others disagree, feeling that it is not very political.
Inmates are required to be part of a car. According to one prisoner, “All races know where they stand and have a hands-off policy.” Another respondent stated that the yard has progressively grown softer over the past decade.
Level of Violence
Inmates report a low level of violence but numerous check-ins.
Vulnerable Populations
Inmates report mixed beliefs about sex offenders, informants, and LGBT inmates. Some say sex offenders can’t walk the yard, and informants can possibly stay if they are undercover. Other inmates believe that sex offenders and informants can remain.
According to one inmate, “Sex offenders used to be run up top, but due to the number of them and threats from staff, they are allowed to stay. The remaining ones know their place and stay out of the way. Same basically with rats.”
Good at FCI Greenville Federal Prison
“Large portions of food, soda/juice fountains in the chow hall, and good commissary selection.”
Bad at FCI Greenville IL Prison
“Prison politics and car requirement.” “Staff get so bored that they make up new policies just to have something to complain about.”
“Child molesters and rats.” “No pool tables.” “They took out the microwaves.”
Other Inmate Comments
“If you do go, make sure your paperwork is clean.” “Unless you are clean, this is probably not a safe yard.” “Oddly enough, people sometimes get shots (i.e., incident reports) to say and not go to a low.”
