The Northeast Regional Office of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) is responsible for administering and supervising all federal prisons in the northeast region of the United States. The office is headquartered in Philadelphia and overseen by the Central Office of the BOP in Washington, D.C.
The BOP’s Northeast Regional Office fulfills the following responsibilities:
- Ensuring institutional compliance with federal laws and regulations
- Developing and implementing policies and procedures
- Conducting facility inspections and audits
- Providing training programs and technical assistance
- Investigating allegations of misconduct
- Assisting state and local criminal justice agencies
- Supervising Residential Reentry Centers
The Northeast Regional Office also oversees the construction of new prisons and the expansion of existing facilities. In addition, they are responsible for ensuring that prisoners have access to adequate medical care, food, and recreation, among other things.
