Big Spring Correctional Facility Prison Services Information
Background
Big Spring Correctional Center is a private prison located in Big Spring, Texas. It is owned and operated by Geo Group.
The facility is under the purview of the United States Department of Justice. It houses federal “deportable alien” detainees. The prison complex consists of two separate facilities: Airpark and Cedar Hill.
The Airpark Facility opened in 1991 on the former Webb Air Force Base. It originally housed 564 beds. A 1999 expansion converted the administration building into inmate housing. The facility now houses up to 652 inmates.
The Cedar Hill Facility opened in 1998 with 520 beds. Following its 2018 expansion, the facility now houses up to 1,080 inmates. This expansion included adding a dental clinic, two negative pressure rooms, and an expanded Restricted Housing Unit. The Restricted Housing Unit now holds up to 104 inmates.
The facility achieved initial accreditation through the American Correctional Association in 2010 and re-accreditation in 2012 and 2015. The current facility delivers all services, providing an environment for residents working their way through the judicial system.
Please note CI Big Spring is a private prison, not a regular federal prison. It is a different institution than Federal Correctional Institution Big Spring. You can learn more about FCI Big Spring and its minimum-security satellite prison camp in its profile.
