FCI El Reno Prison Services Information
Federal Correctional Institution El Reno is a medium-security federal prison in El Reno, Oklahoma. It opened in 1933 and houses male inmates. The facility was previously known as a federal reformatory.
Federal Correctional Institution El Reno Camp also houses male inmates. This federal prison camp opened in 1980 and is located adjacent to the central institution.
El Reno federal prison is in the Fort Reno Military Reserve. Until the 1970s, it housed younger prisoners aged 18 to 26. The prison then opened to all age groups. It is under the purview of the United States Department of Justice.
President Barack Obama visited El Reno prison in July 2015, making him the first sitting U.S. president ever to visit a federal prison.
Media reports indicate that at least one guard has sexually assaulted an inmate at the prison.
Inmate Housing Units
Inmates live in two- and three-person cells. Inmates at El Reno Prison camp live in dormitories divided into two- and four-person cubicles.
The FCI El Reno Oklahoma federal prison’s Health Services Department offers the following medical services to inmates:

Psychologists are responsible for providing a full range of professional psychological services. Psychologists also aid staff members through program design, consultation, and training. Services for inmates include evaluations and therapy.
Common psychology treatment groups include anger management, HIV/AIDS awareness, and criminal thinking.
Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP)
FCI El Reno has the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). The camp does not have the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). Both facilities offer the Drug Abuse Program, Drug Abuse Education Course, and Non-Residential Drug Abuse Program (NR-DAP).
FCI El Reno Educational, Library, and Recreation Offerings
El Reno prison provides literacy, GED, and English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) programs. Other prison education offerings include parenting and Adult Continuing Education (ACE) classes. High school diplomas and post-secondary degrees are available through paid correspondence programs.
Advanced Occupational Education
FCI El Reno Oklahoma prison offers advanced occupational education in Culinary Arts, Electric, Plumbing, Purchasing Agent, and Welding.
The El Reno prison camp offers Diesel Repair and Horticulture.
No vocational training is available at El Reno federal prison aside from the advanced occupational education programs.

The El Reno prison camp offers an apprenticeship in Dental Assistant.
El Reno federal prison offers a legal and leisure library for inmates. The legal library primarily consists of the Bureau of Prisons’ (BOP) TRULINCS Electronic Law Library computers. Typewriters and a copy machine are also available.
The leisure library permits inmates to check out fiction and nonfiction books, newspapers, and magazines. There are also several educational DVDs that inmates can check out.
The prison’s UNICOR facility handles metal fabrication and welding. The El Reno prison camp does not house a UNICOR facility.
Inmates at El Reno, Oklahoma prison, are permitted to spend up to $360.00 per month in commissary purchases on their designated shopping days. This is further restricted to $180 every two weeks.
Items such as food, drinks, clothing, and electronics can be purchased. Inmates are allowed to shop twice a week. Sales are conducted Monday through Thursday at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.

There is a moderate level of violence at this facility. Inmates report periodic fights and some stabbings. This is especially prevalent amongst the Hispanic inmates.
Sex offenders and informants can’t stay. LGBT inmates can remain, but they are somewhat ostracized and must contend with an unfriendly and unsupportive environment.

In January 2018, former Arkansas State Senator Jake Files reported to Federal Correctional Institution El Reno, Oklahoma, federal prison to begin his 18-month sentence for fraud and money laundering.
In January 2017, Amanda Hock, a guard at FCI El Reno, was sentenced to probation and community service for sexual conduct with a male prisoner in December 2015.
